MERA PEAK ADVENTURE PLAN

 

Day 1: KATHMANDU

Arrive in Kathmandu and check into the hotel -gear check and shopping for equipment.  Welcome dinner at 7.00 pm. (D)

Day 2: KATHMANDU

While we wrap up last minute paperwork with the Nepali Government, you will have a casual day of shopping for souvenirs in the streets of Kathmandu with fantastic photo opportunities along the way Sightseeing tour of Kathmandu: enjoy a city tour visiting the palaces, Durbar Square, Hindu temples and shrines, Buddhist stupas. A favorite destination is the Monkey Temple, a Buddhist temple situated on a small hill that offers panoramic views of the city. Or just relaxing at roof top café, along the streets of Thamelan area in Kathmandu. (B). 

Day 3: KHUMBU REGION

We fly to the Himalayan foothills to begin our trek into the Khumbu region. A clear day will give us a panoramic view of the Himalayas. After landing in the village of Lukla Leaving after breakfast we will take our time as we make our way through the forest crossing several cascading streams along our route. We progress towards the Zatrwa La which is a part of an impressive rocky ridge of the Kalo Himal, and we make our camp by a stream in a forest clearing at Chutanga, at about12,000 feet. ( B.L.D) 

Day 4: TULI KHARKA

Today we ascend to a small notch through the Sebuk Danda Ridge where we continue along rocky terrain before we reach the Zatrwa La at 15,000 feet. The path drops down to the rugged, stream-filled, boulder strewn valley of Hinku Dranka. We make a camp about 13,500 feet at Tuli Kharka  (B.L.D.) 

Day 5: KHOTE

From Tuli Kharka we traverse the hillside crossing several spurs. Along the path we get good views of the South Face of Mera. We trek through a beautiful forest full of rhododendron, bamboo, birch, and pine. We traverse until we descend steeply through dense forest to the river. At the river we camp at 11,500 feet, at Khote. ( B.L.D)

Day 6: KUSUM KANGURU

After breakfast we start out following the river. Ascending, we pass a few sherperd's buildings, and we soon come to a small Buddhist monestary. We continue up the valley with the sheer rock face of Kusum Kanguru at 20,896 feet towering above us. We will camp here for the night (~14,000 feet). Rest day with possible acclimatization hike. ( B.L.D) 

Day 8: KHARE

Today we trek up to Khare and camp at over 15,000feet. ( B.L.D)

Day 9: MERA LA BASE CAMP

We climb onto the glacier and along a beautiful snow shelf which leads to Mera La, base camp at 17,767 feet.  ( B.L.D)

Day 10: MERA HIGH CAMP

From Mera La we ascend the snow slopes to a rock outcrop that marks the divide between the Mera and Naulekh glaciers. We establish high camp here at 19,028 feet. From high camp we can soak in dramatic views of Kanchenjunga, Chamlang, Makalu and Buruntse. We also get views of the incredible Ama Dablam , Cho Oyu, Kangtega, Lhotse, Everest.

Day 11: SUMMIT DAY

With an early morning departure we ascend up the glacier and gaining the ridge, we head to the Northwest. This beautiful and dramatic classic snow ridge leads to the North summit, the highest point at 21,247 feet. After we have had a chance to absorb the view, we will descend the same route. We will continue to Khare for our celebration feast! ( B.L.D) 

Day 12: SUMMIT DAY BACKUP DAY ( B.L.D)

Day 13: BACK TO LUKLA AND FLYING TO POKHARA

Helicopter to Lukla the flight to Kathmandu. Fly to Kathmandu early morning at 7 and immediately catching the first flight to to Pokhara where we will meet Lakpa and Pemba for a paragliding experience. (B.D.)

Day 14 and 15: PHEWA LAKE

Very early rise, Rafting day and lunch at the lake, back to Pokhara (B.D.) 

Day 16: KATHMANDU

Fly to Kathmandu. Free day: shopping and massages. (B)

Day 17: FLY BACK HOME (B)
